about

My best friend passed suddenly in the 3 weeks between his 21st birthday and mine. I had just found out that my brand new wife was pregnant. A month after he passed, I found out it was twins. It was the start of a rough period. 22 years later I finally wrote a song about it. - Tony Manard

lyrics

The dead never speak in my dreams
At least not with words
What I wouldn’t give
To hear your voice again
A couple of funny looking kids
Taking on the world
A singular phenomenon of friends
One left one got left behind
Almost lost my mind Too tough to cry
Impotent rage and anger at the sky
Though I could bend it to my will
Like I always do
She’s pregnant now
she says it’s two
Now you can't tell me
and I don't know what to do

I was thinking about life in the morning
and death in the afternoon
Thinking about a birth in the middle of the night
Mostly I was thinking about you

We used to drink cheap wine in the graveyard
After your momma went to bed
I wish I could remember
All the crazy things we said
They tried to split us apart
But the party kept going
never missed a beat
Come friday night we were right back
running those streets
road trip to see you at college
scared to death in my first strip bar
like the Christmas Eve we almost
bought it in my old car
I was a terrible actor
You never learned to play the guitar

These flashes of memory are all that I have left
